AZPunk.com is a free online resource for the Arizona punk rock community for information on local shows, bands, venues and happenings. The website launched February 1, 2002 with the goal of tackling the insatiable need to find out what the hell there was for a punker to do within the states borders. Chris Lawson, Micah Elliot and Bryan Sandell combined their skills, talents and decades of love for their local punk rock scene, to create a place for others to find out more on local shows, bands, music, and anything else punk rock in Arizona. The Bollox started in the Fall of 2007. Founded by Jason DeVore and Keith Walker, the two friends came together with a vision of playing music that spoke from the heart, got the blood boiling and kept good times rolling. Both had the love for Irish/Folk Celtic music, and with Walker being a native of Dublin, Ireland and DeVore’s passion for Irish Pub music as well, there seemed to be only one thing to do…start writing tunes about just that. Starting out with nothing more than a couple acoustic guitars and an 8 pack of Mcaffrey’s, DeVore and Walker began to jam. Writing songs of good times, bad times, struggles and triumph’s, irish history and Pub crawls, the two instantly became fired up with the ease in which the songs were coming. They then decided to recruit members to form a full group. Bringing in childhood friend Jason “Saddy” Combs on bass, and old friend Brad Park on drums, the four began to jam. Shortly thereafter they recruited yet another old time friend, one Greg McLarty, to play the electric guitar for what today has brought the 5 of them to date to be…THE BOLLOX.

Producer/engineer Ryan Greene, known for producing punk and rock bands such as NOFX, Dishwalla, Lagwagon, No Use for a Name, Nerf Herder and The Dickies, among others, has relocated to Scottsdale, Ariz. and opened Crush Recording, a tracking and mixing facility armed with an SSL 9000 J Series console.
Greene, a former co-owner of Motor Studios in San Francisco, launched the 1,700-square-foot facility in August 2005 with partner Steve Smith (president of Radio Ratings Inc.); together they operate a production company and plan to “branch out in other directions” early next year.
Elijah Trotsky, a stripped-down banjo player who found his sound and attitude on the streets of Hollywood after gaining his B.A. from UC Berkley and his Masters in Western Philosophy from Columbia University, can rock the house with just a banjo. Fuelled by caffeine and a raging love for his idols – Iggy, the Ramones, the Dead, Pete Seeger, Nietzsche, Kant, Marx Thoreau, Sartre, Dali and the solitary Mexican mariachi –Elijah Trotsky has distilled his experiences in punk, rock, country bands along with his formal education into a unique 21st century hybrid – eco-friendly, but with ample power, acceleration and speed. Broken in like an excellent pair of jeans, Elijah plays lead banjo and vocals, alone or accompanied by a guitar (with his duet The Sunshine Brothers.)

Last Action Zeros formed in the summer of 2000 by singer Mike Crews and bassist Greg Calabrese in an attempt to bring an “old-school” sound to what seemed like an over-saturated pop punk market. to help with this task, we recruited drummer Paul and guitarist Bryan of the local Phoenix band Oktober. Last Action Zeros has been tearing up the local punk scene on their own as well as doing opening slots for national punk idols such as the Subhumans, Total Chaos, Buzzcocks, The Skeptix, Street Brats, Teen Idols, Madcap, Candy Snatchers, Leftover Crack and the 2003-2004 Vans Warped Tour. Last Action Zeros was awarded the AZ Ska-Punk category for best old-school band in 2003. Last Action Zeros hopes to spread it’s blue collar, punk rock & roll to a larger audience with their self released full length c.d. that was released spring of 2005.

Arizona’s North Side Kings formed in late 1999 out of disgust towards all the P. C. bullshit bands that were being lumped into what is called “hardcore.” Through the years North Side Kings have made their presence known across the world with their no holds barred attitude and their blunt honesty. Often and easily offensive, this band carries no middle ground. They are either really despised or extremely well liked. But, whatever opinions run rapid, they are one of the most talked about hardcore bands today. This is real deal hardcore, straight forward and to the point. There is nothing poetic about NSK’s lyrics, nor do they attempt to hide the fact that the music they play is “caveman friendly.”

What do you do when your band mates decide that after being with you for seven years, touring America and Canada constantly, releasing two very well-received albums and being your childhood best friends that this “whole music thing” isn’t really what they want to do and they quit? You really have two options: quit or carry on.
Thankfully ORANGE’s Joe Dexter (vocals/bass) and Zak Glosserman (drums) have decided to positively move forward by inviting the best musicians they had met while on tour over the past four years to join their outfit. Both Perry Ladish (rhythm guitar) and Brendan Minded (lead guitar) said yes and a newer, brighter, fresher ORANGE was reborn. Thus their third album for Hellcat Records due out this fall is aptly titled Phoenix as it represents a band rising out of its own ashes to triumphantly produce their best album to date.

Feel free, if you’d like, to wave your hands uproariously in the air and proclaim to the world that Punk is dead, that it’s a lost form of music not viable since the hey days of 1970’s New York where every nitty, gritty street punk filled the room of CBGB’s to catch the latest Punk Rock escapade. Nowadays, that feeling of elation through Punk Rock music, and even Rock music itself, is at best experienced through an every-so-often tour of older bands still kickin’ around and playin’ for the fans, which is wonderful, but it’d be nice to see some newer ensembles step up to the plate and prove once and for all that the death of Punk is a complete and total lie. So with that being said, I direct your attention to Thousand Watt Stare, a brand-spankin’ new band whose members, (Mr.Christian Martucci of Black President, Strychnine Babies, and The Chelsea Smiles, and Mr.Dylan Howard and Mr.Pat Kim of Unwritten Law), are more than experienced in the art of making Punk Rock music and playing it in the way it was meant to be played: fast, loud, and no bullshit attached. Blended nicely with it’s fair share of Rockabilly and straight up Rock n’ Roll, (and leaving all that Emo and Screamo by the wayside), Thousand Watt Stare may just be the saviors that Punk Rock music has been looking for. -Stephanie Dubrick – AMP Magazine
